Research Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • Effects of overexpression of Tfam gene in Drosophila: We previously found that TFAM overexpression shortened lifespan in Drosophila. The results on the effects of Tfam overexpression on lifespan and other characteristics were compiled, and the role of TFAM in lifespan determination was discussed.
    Mitochondrial function of mitochondrial transformants in Drosophila: The shortened lifespan of the mitochondrial transformants has been observed. By collaborating with Prof. Yura, the positions of amino acid replacements in the complex I subunits in the transformants were examined, based on the structure of the complex I of T. thermophilus, and the effects of the replacements on mitochondrial function was discussed.

Educational Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • 1) For Undergraduates (Compulsory): In “Basic Genetics" and “Molecular Genetics", I lectured on the molecular aspects of Mendelian genetics and the structure and expression of genomes. In “General biology B", I lectured on the chemical structure of DNA, DNA replication, mutation, and DNA repair.
    2) For Undergraduates (Optional): In “Laboratory Course of Molecular Genetics", cloning of DNA fragments were carried out. I talked about the guidelines for genetically modified organisms.
    3) For Graduate students: In “Organelle Genetics", I lectured on basic mitochondrial genetics and introduced some of recent topics. Several newly published papers in mitochondrial research were picked up and discussed in the class.
