Research Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • In 2014 I theoretically studied electronic states of SnTe and PbTe monolayers. Recently topological crystalline insulators (TCIs) are extensively studied. The TCI is a classification of electronic states of insulators by topological numbers defined by point group symmetries of crystals. The first realistic materials of TCIs are SnTe and its alloy with Pb. They were theoretically predicted and experimentally materialized. These are three-dimensional systems. Recently two-dimensional (2D) TCIs are theoretically proposed. However, the 2D TCIs have not been experimentally materialized. In my study I theoretically studied electronics states of 2D TCI thin films. I calculated the electronic states of SnTe monolayers sandwiched between two NaBr surfaces, and found that edge states exist in wires of the sandwiched system. This result shows that this system is a 2D TCI.

  • In 2016 I supervised one undergraduate student and three graduate students in master course. The title of the graduation researchs is "A study on black metamaterials". The titles of the master theses are "Control of band gaps in two-dimensional layered materials" and "Calculation of photoexcitation in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides". I have teaching classes of "Computational Physics", "Quantum Mechanics II" and "Solid State Physics" for undergraduate students, and "Exercise on Solid State Physics" for graduate students in master course. I supervised three students in "Elementary Seminar in Physics".
