Research Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • My research explores Expression Engineering, an interdisciplinary field that investigates human expression through computational and engineering approaches. I focus particularly on bodily expression such as dance, movement, and performance, and aim to model, analyze, and support creative processes using digital technologies.

    My work integrates methods from Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), motion capture, machine learning, and interactive media to analyze movement data and develop systems that support artistic creation, learning, and cultural preservation. For example, I study how motion capture and AI can be used to analyze dance movements, support choreography, and provide feedback for performers.

    Another major direction of my research is the digital documentation and preservation of embodied cultural heritage, such as traditional performing arts. By recording and computationally analyzing human movement, my research aims to contribute not only to creative practice but also to education, cultural sustainability, and new forms of human–AI collaboration in the arts.

Educational Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • In both undergraduate and graduate education, I teach topics related to Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), design thinking, and data-driven problem solving.

    At the undergraduate level, students learn the fundamentals of programming, data analysis, and user experience design. Through project-based courses and studio-style exercises, students develop practical skills in prototyping interactive systems using sensors, AI, and digital media, while considering social and cultural contexts.

    At the graduate level, I supervise research in HCI and Expression Engineering. Students conduct interdisciplinary research on topics such as movement analysis, interactive systems for creative practice, and digital documentation of embodied culture. Through these activities, the program aims to cultivate researchers and professionals who can integrate technology, design, and creativity to address emerging challenges in society.

Future Research Plans, Research Prospects, and Joint Research Potential 【 display / non-display

  • My future research aims to further develop computational approaches to analyzing and supporting human expression, particularly bodily expression such as dance and performance. By advancing motion capture analysis, machine learning techniques, and interactive systems, I seek to create technologies that support creative practice, learning, and performance.

    Another important direction is the digital documentation and analysis of embodied cultural heritage, including traditional performing arts. Through interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers in information science, artists, cultural practitioners, and industry partners, the research aims to establish new technological foundations for supporting human creativity, cultural preservation, and human-AI collaboration in expressive practices.
