My research focuses on people who “cross borders". Empirically, my work centres on the lived experiences of trans migrants in Japan and Europe, particularly those from the Sinophone world. By working with queer as an intersectional analytical category, I explore how “border crossing" (national, cultural, bodily) shapes and is shaped by social processes such as racialisation, cis- and hetero-normativity, nativism and nationalism in the context of globalisation and digitisation.

In undergraduate seminars, such as Cultural Anthropology Seminar and Gender Studies Seminar, as well as lectures including Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, students are introduced to foundational literature in cultural anthropology and queer anthropology, while also gaining practical training in anthropological research methods such as fieldwork and digital ethnography.
In master's-level seminars, such as Foundation Seminar in Cultural and Social Studies, and lectures including Cultural and Social Studies and Sexuality Studies, students engage in close reading of English-language scholarship on queer studies and learn the key concepts and major debates in queer feminist research.

My research will continue to examine, from the perspectives of cultural anthropology and queer studies, how queer people move, connect, and shape their sense of self in the context of globalisation and digitalisation. I aim to shed light on how the intersections of the nation-state, gender, sexuality, and technology influence everyday practices of living and senses of belonging. I also hope to develop this work through collaborative research with adjacent fields, including migration studies, gender studies, media studies, and area studies, in order to explore the diverse possibilities of life in contemporary society in a more comprehensive way.
