Research Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • I continued research into the grammaticalization of reflexive pronouns, which I had been doing for several years. In the year 2014, I focused on the question of how Sino-Japanese forms such as zi-, ziko-, and zisin and Yamato forms such as mi-, kokoro-, ware, etc. have come to coexist in the reflexive system of the Japanese grammar. The result has been published in a journal. I am currently conducting an investigation into theoretical issues that have arisen from the historical investigation, focusing on the question of what consequences the current syntactic theory based on Move and Agree will have for the theory of anaphora.

Educational Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • For undergraduate students, I taught "Introduction to Linguistics," "Seminar: English Grammar," "Advanced Seminar: Methodology in Linguistic Research I," and "Special Lecture on English Linguistics VI." For graduate students, I taught "English Linguistics (Grammatical Theory): Advanced Lecture" and "English Linguistics (Morphology): Advanced Seminar." I also supervised five BA theses in the area of English linguistics.

Future Research Plans, Research Prospects, and Joint Research Potential 【 display / non-display

  • I will continue an investigation of theoretical issues to deal with anaphora, especially that based on reflexive forms. I will conduct research into the question of how theoretical devices proposed in the Minimalist Program (such as Move and Agree) can shed light on the issues of anaphora. This way, I am hoping to gain a better understanding of the nature of syntactic processes and the relation between syntax and semantics in general.
