I am investigating the relationship between the morpho-syntactic properties of reflexive forms and their semantic properties. It has been reported in the literature that reflexive forms are used not only as reflexive-markers but also as logophors, and I am currently investigating how this dual property can be captured within a grammatical theory, focusing mainly on English and Japanese reflexive forms. However, this issue is not limited to these languages, and should be considered from a more general perspective including many other languages.

My basic research theme is to find out the relationship between syntax and semantics, primarily focusing on English and Japanese. I am currently working on the syntax and semantics of reflexive anaphora in various languages. I would like to extend the current research topic to pronominal anaphora in general and to seek out its relationship with phenomena such as voice alternations to find out the basic nature of the human language.
