Research Pursuits 【 display / non-display

  • By using neutron scattering technique, we are studying strongly correlated electron systems, mainly CeMIn5 (M=Co, Rh,Ir),Skyrmion system MnSi, Sr2RuO4, RENi2B2C (RE=Er and Tb), PdBi2, LaNiC2, MnO/NiO, NixMn1-xTiO3 and their relatives. Recent progresses in my research activities are summarized as follows:

    (1)Superconducting properties in CeMIn5 (M=Co, Rh,Ir)
    FFLO state has been proposed to realize in quasi-two dimensional heavy electron superconductor CeCoIn5. Then we have tried to verify it by SANS experiments.

    (2) Superconducting symmetry in Sr2RuO4
    Sr2RuO4 has been suggested to be a spin triplet superconductor. The system possess a huge incommensurate AFM spin fluctuations at q =(1/3 1/3 L) but any direct evidence of ferromagnetic spin fluctuations has not been reported so far. We plan to perform SANS experiments on this material. Then we try to grow new single crystals.

  • (Undergraduate) Condensed Matter Physics, Introduction to Solid State Physics, Basic Experiments in Physics (Graduate School) Strongly Correlated Physics, Strongly Correlated Physics Exercise (Graduation research / Master's research guidance) Each student belonging to the laboratory is given one research theme. The research topics so far are listed on the website of the laboratory. Each student prepares a sample of the research theme which she is in charge of, and conducts physical property research using X-ray structure analysis, electrical resistance, magnetization measurement, neutron scattering, etc. We spend a long time to understand the purpose of the research and to discuss the optimal experiment / analysis method, but in that way, I try to convey the fun of research such as "how to open up a solution to a new problem with your own hands".

Future Research Plans, Research Prospects, and Joint Research Potential 【 display / non-display

  • Recently, I am studying the relationship between superconducting phenomena and magnetism. The current research themes are to verify the spontaneous flux lattice structure expected for ferromagnetic superconductors and to confirm the FFLO phase, which is thought to be realized by CeCoIn5. These two phenomena are the ones theoretically predicted several decades ago, and are problems that have not been confirmed to be realized in real systems so far. It is very difficult and challenging to experimentally demonstrate these phenomena. Utilizing the knowledge we have cultivated so far, we are preparing for the experiment with as much concentration as possible.
